Gerald L. "Jerry" Olson JOY, Illinois -- Gerald L. "Jerry" Olson, Jr., 52, of Joy, Illinois, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, January 21, 2012, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo. Jerry had been fighting a brain tumor since November 26, 2004. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at the First Baptist Church, Joy, Illinois. Burial will take place in Peniel Cemetery, Joy, Illinois. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at the Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left for the family. Gerald was born on October 17, 1959, in Cedar Rapids, a son of Gerald L. Sr. and Merlene "Cookie" Peterson Olson. He graduated from Westmer High School in 1977. He married Christine Brown on June 18, 1987, in Muscatine. Jerry was a machine operator at Hon Industries in Muscatine for 27 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.
