Mary Ann "Grandma Honey" Smet

Mary Ann Ruth Smet ("Grandma Honey"), age 88, died Sunday January 29, 2012. She was born May 22, 1923 in Rhinelander to the late Joseph and Rena (Bodoh) Benoit. Mary Ann and Francis were married on Valentine's Day, 1942. They shared 57 years together and will now celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary together in heaven. Mary Ann loved to travel, especially to California and up north to Mountain and Door County. She enjoyed crafts, including sewing and crocheting and each grandchild and great grandchild received an afghan. Mary Ann loved gardening and had numerous plants and flowers. She also loved to cook and bake especially her strawberry cake and rhubarb tort. Survivors include four sons and four daughters: John (Diane Wettlaufer) Smet, Barbara (Richard) Maresh, Jerry (Lynda) Smet, Mary Micoley, Bill (June) Smet, Tony (Lisa) Smet, Tina (Bob) Torrez, and Sandy (Mark) Lubow. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Francis; four brothers, seven sisters, 1 grandson: Raymond Smet and Francis' three sisters. Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday, February 1st at Lyndahl Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 10 to 11 am Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1307 Lourdes Avenue, De Pere, WI where the mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 am with Father Tim Shillcox, O. Praem. officiating. Entombment will be at the Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. A memorial fund has been established in Mary Ann's name.
