Marjorie Rae Gilberg Newman died on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Abington Memorial Hospital. The last three years of her life she was a resident of the Souderton Mennonite Homes in Souderton, Pa. Marjorie was born on June 11, 1922, in Juniata (Altoona), Pa. to the late David H. and Carrie Frances Pittman Gilberg. She and her two sisters and her brother were raised in Altoona, and she graduated from Altoona High School in June 1940 where she received commendation for Bookkeeping and Intramural Sports. Her Christian faith was always important to her, and as a child she attended Sunday School at Altoona's 8th Avenue Methodist Church. Her family moved from Altoona to Willow Grove in the early 1940's. Marjorie worked with the Internal Revenue, and with the office of the Johnsville Naval Air Development Center from 1943 until she retired in 1973. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of the "Alley-Oops" Bowling Team at Johnsville in the 1940's. She was also a member of the U.S. Army Signal Corps. mbler Pa., and Marjorie lived in that same house for 58 years until the end of 2008. She loved and owned several dogs, and also cared for her sister's dogs. She enjoyed friendships with neighbors and their children. Many children remember the activities she did with them. Her nieces and nephews could always count on love and support from "Aunt Marjorie." Marjorie was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Ambler, and their United Methodist Women. She put Christian Principles to practice in her life. She took loving care of her husband, her mother, and her sister Clare. Marjorie's husband Charles preceded her in death on January 6, 1973. Her brother Harold Gilberg and her sisters Clare Nowers and Pauline Carley also preceded her in death. Marjorie is survived by her sister in law Blanche Gilberg of Freedom, Pa, her niece Sharon Stover and her husband Bruce of Harleysville, Pa., her nephew Richard Carley of Abington, Pa., her niece Judy Obreza and her huband Jay of Mercer, Pa., her nephew Don Gilberg and his wife Nicole of Pittsburg, Pa., and her niece Gayle Petty and her husband Duane of Delta Junction, Alaska. She is further survived by her grandnieces Becky Corpier (husband Lee), Joy Obreza and Emily, Paige, Bailey, and Mallory Gilberg. Her grandnephews are Brian Stover, Matthew Gilberg, and Jared Obreza. Last November she was happy to meet her new great-grandnephew, the son of Brian Stover and Christine Clark - Rylan Scott Stover.
