Charles Clark

Charles William Clark, one of five children of Clarence Roy and Leota Mae (Campbell) Clark, was born at Emerson, Iowa on October 12, 1912. He attended school in Hastings, Iowa through the fourth grade and then worked for area farmers. In the early 1930's, Charlie joined the Civilian Conservation Corps at Sidney, Iowa where he worked on various construction projects including the building of US Highway 34. Charlie and Wilma LaVerne Cox of Red Oak, Iowa were married on March 10, 1936 at Glenwood, Iowa. They moved to Idaho Springs, Colorado where Charlie worked building cabins for a motel. They lived the first summer in a tent at the construction site and in the winter moved into one of the cabins where their first child, Shirley, was born. In 1938, they returned to Mills County and Charlie farmed south of Glenwood. Their marriage was blessed with six more children, Richard, Barbara, Judith, Karen, James, and Patricia. him to retire and move to the Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. Charlie enjoyed all music and played the piano and all string instruments. He would play and often sing for dances in the area. Charlie died at Glen Haven Home on March 28, 2003 having attained the age of 90 years, 5 months, and 16 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leo Clark and Marion "Bud" Clark, brother-in-law Roy Viner, and his daughters Karen Hankinson and Barbara Brammer. Charlie is survived by his children, Shirley Cohee and husband Junior of Sunbury, NC, Richard Clark of Pisgah, IA, Judy Drake and husband Hank of Grand Junction, CO, Jim Clark and wife Connie of Glenwood, IA, and Patricia Clark of South Carolina; sister Ruby Viner of Fritch, TX; brother Harold Clark and his wife Adeline of Falls City, NE; sisters-in-law Geraldine Clark of Red Oak, IA and Nina Clark of Glenwood; over 30 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; relatives and friends.
