Robert Hopp

Robert Morris Hopp, one of three children of Leo Detlef and Bertha Evans (Miller) Hopp, was born on March 6, 1922 in Glenwood, Iowa. He grew up in the area and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1939. On October 7, 1942, Bob enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps and was inducted at Fort Crook, Nebraska. He was stationed at Tucson, Arizona and Miami Beach, Florida and served until December 15, 1943. Bob and Mabel Marie Menschel were married on August 20, 1944 at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Hastings, Iowa. They made their first and only home on his parent's farm northwest of Malvern. Bob enjoyed farming and became a farm owner and operator for the next 58 years. Bob and Marie were blessed with son Donald Lee and daughter Diane Kay. Bob was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Glenwood. He was on the Board of Directors for Glenwood State Bank and served on the Centerline School Board for a number of years. Bob served on the ASCS Committee for over 30 years, was a Silver Creek Township trustee, and a member of the Mills County Farm Bureau. sports and various activities. Bob and Marie had been married 58 years when Bob died on March 31, 2003 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He had attained the age of 81 years and 25 days. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Keith Hopp. Bob is survived by his wife Marie Hopp of Malvern, son Don L. Hopp of Glenwood, daughter Diane Schroeder and her husband Donnie of Malvern; grandsons Rob Schroeder and his wife Meg of Glenwood and Dusty Schroeder of Westminister, Colorado; great grandson Dylan; sister Virginia Moore and her husband Bernard of Council Bluffs; sister-in-law Polly Hopp of Glenwood; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
