Sandra Kay Stanley, one of three daughters of Betty May (Wells) and Clyde LaVerne Shook Jr., was born at Council Bluffs, Iowa on July 23, 1949. Sandra grew up on her parent's farm west of Malvern, Iowa. She attended country school near her home and graduated from the Malvern Community High School in 1967. Sandy attended Stewart's College of Cosmetology in Council Bluffs and graduated in 1968. Sandy worked the next few years in beauty salons in Malvern and then Glenwood. Sandra and Terry Stanley of Glenwood were married on April 23, 1972 at Grace United Methodist Church in Glenwood. Their marriage was blessed with a son Sean. Sandra was a stay-at-home mother from 1982 to 1985 when she began working at the Captain Video store in Glenwood. In 1989, Sandra began working as a cook at Park Place in Glenwood and part time at Baker's Delight, a Glenwood bakery. She and Terry divorced in 1992 and leukemia forced Sandra to retire in 1997. Her battle with cancer was eased by the support of her family and friends. or her treatments. She felt the two families blended well together and appreciated their friendship. When health permitted, Sandra enjoyed bowling and received many awards for her skill. Her other enjoyments included reading, making crafts, and cooking. She was a member of the Glenwood Eagles. Sandra was honored to be named Ambassador to the Glenwood American Cancer Relay for Life in 1998. Surrounded by her son and his family, Sandra died at her home on February 19, 2004. She had attained the age of 54 years, 6 months, and 26 days. Sandra was preceded in death by her grandparents Clyde and Florence Shook and Clarence and Christinia Wells and stepfather Leo Britten. Sandra is survived by her son Sean Stanley and his wife Dianna and their daughters Cheldyn and Brooke of Malvern; mother Betty Britten of Omaha; father Clyde Shook, Jr. of Glenwood; sisters Christine Wagner and her husband Michael of Marshalltown, IA and Sue Ann Roenfeld and her husband Michael of Malvern; two nieces, a nephew, aunts and uncles; other relatives and friends.
