n assembler on Hudson Vega Bombers, P-28 fighters, and the P-80 aircraft. After ten months, Lockheed sent Wayne to tool and die school for the next four years while he continued working full time. While living in California, daughter Sharon Lynn was born in 1943. The family moved back to Glenwood in 1946 and Wayne started a junkyard. He built a mold and manufactured concrete blocks one-by-one until he had enough blocks to build a new shop. Lucille's father provided money for the roof and Lucille's sewing money paid for the windows. In 1960, Wayne and Lucille built an apartment house at 1009 Sharp Street in Glenwood where they lived until 1964 when they moved their junkyard business east of Glenwood. They sold the junkyard business in 1977 and moved to 105 Park Avenue where Wayne operated a small engine repair shop in his basement. He later moved the shop to the barn where he also ran a chainsaw repair business. Wayne and Lucille began to spend their winters in Texas where they became winter Texans. Wayne and Lucille had been married for 56 years when Lucille died on July 31, 1988. Wayne continued to live in their home adapting to declining health. Wayne eventually began using a walker device equipped with handbrakes and a seat on which he could rest. He took daily walks from his home to the Post Office, south on Vine Street to the viaduct, back to Breadeaux Pizza and home. After suffering a fractured hip in 2003, Wayne moved to Glen Haven Home where he died on March 21, 2005 having attained the age of 93 years, 4 months, and 23 days. In addition to his wife Lucille, Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; sister Reva; brothers Keith, Arlyn, and Zernie. He is survived by his children Leslie Martindale and his wife Jean of Maysville, Arkansas, Patricia McMahan and her husband Donald of Glenwood and Sharon Howard of Glenwood; brother Dean Martindale of Phillipsburg, Kansas; twelve grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
