Catherine Alice Walker, one of two children of John and Esther (Sipe) Summers,was born at McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania on July 30, 1913. When Catherine was three years old, the family moved to Southwest Iowa, living near several communities as her father worked as a farmer. Catherine graduated from the Sidney High School and completed Normal Teacher Training. Catherine and Joe Walker were married at Hamburg, IA and established a home on a farm in the area. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Kenneth D. Walker, Larry L. Walker, and Sandra J. Walker. Catherine enjoyed being a homemaker and farm wife. In 1950, the family moved to the Malvern area and Joe continued his farming. They then moved to College Springs, IA for a short time. Catherine was baptized into the Lutheran faith on June 12, 1959 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Yorktown. The family later returned to Malvern. They became members of St. John's Lutheran Church near Hastings, IA where Catherine was active in her church and Ladies Aid. er of the Malvern Senior Citizens and enjoyed playing cards with her friends. Catherine and Joe had been married for 51 years at the time of Joe's death on April 22, 1985. Catherine continued to live at her home and enjoyed time with her family and friends. Catherine died at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA on April 20, 2005 at the age of 91 years, 8 months, and 20 days. She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her children Kenneth Walker of Shenandoah, IA, Larry L. Walker of Omaha, NE, and Sandra J. Wooten of Olathe, KS; grandchildren Mark Wooten and Annette (Wooten) Smith; great grandchildren Erin Smith, Taylor Smith, and Nichole Wooten; other relatives and friends.
