Charles Truman Shere, the oldest of four children of Melva Marie (Hardy) Shere and Charles Marion Shere, was born at Malvern, Iowa on December 2, 1929. Charles grew up in Malvern where he attended school, and later worked for Albert Johnson as a stockman at Johnson's Grocery and for his Uncle Truman Hardy as a house painter. Charles and Bernadine Corene Warnke of Malvern were married October 8, 1949. They made their home in Malvern and were blessed with one child, Cisco Leon. Charles and Bernadine also raised their great niece, Kitty Warnke. Charles began his life-long auto mechanic career working in Malvern at Salyers Auto and continuing under the ownership of Bill and Donna Baer at Bill Baer Ford. Charles briefly worked as a mechanic in Pacific Junction, Iowa for the Burlington Northern Railroad. He then returned to Malvern where he worked as a mechanic and towman for LeRoy and Phyllis Viner at Malvern Body and Salvage. Charles was a faithful member of the Malvern Volunteer Fire Department. They had been married 55 years when Charles died at the Manor of Malvern on June 4, 2005 at the age of 75 years, 6 months, and 2 days. Charles was preceded in death by his father Charles M. Shere, stepfather Linville Wallace, son-in-law Steven Hanson, and grandson Justin L. Shere. Charles is survived by his wife Bernadine Shere of Malvern; mother Melva Wallace, now living at the Manor of Malvern; son Cisco Shere and his wife Teresa and their daughter Serena Shere of Malvern; great niece Kitty Hanson and her son Andrew Hanson of Albert Lee, Minnesota; brothers Verlin Shere and his wife Francine of Omaha, Nebraska and Richard Shere and his wife Joanna of Malvern; sister Mona McDaniel and her husband John of Council Bluffs, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
