Catherine Aileen Snapp, one of two children of Luella May (McDowell) and Lindsey D. Coons, was born on September 11, 1921 on a farm in rural Macedonia, Iowa. Fondly known as "Kay", she grew up in the Macedonia area and attended the Macedonia Consolidated School for 12 years, graduating in 1939. Kay enjoyed sports and played women's basketball during her high school years. On February 3, 1942, Kay was united in marriage to James Raymond Snapp in Tarkio, Missouri. They made their home in Carson, Iowa and their marriage was blessed with six children, James David, twins Jerry Lynn and Terry Lynn, Jeanne Louise, Susan Rae and Mona Kay. Kay enjoyed being a mother and homemaker. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, the Civil Air Patrol, a member of the Botna Valley Genealogical Society, serving as president in 1987-1988, and numerous other civic organizations. Kay was very active in her children's school activities. She loved traveling and enjoyed sports, particularly chaperoning the high school girl's basketball trips to the various regional and state tournaments. ther people. Her research took her many places, including Salt Lake City, Utah and Chicago, Illinois. Later Kay moved to Oakland, IA and in July of 1992, moved to live with her son, Jerry, in North Aurora, IL. She passed away in North Aurora on June 24, 2008, at the age of 86 years, 9 months, and 13 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Marion Coons; infant son Terry Snapp; daughter Susan Snapp; and granddaughter Heather Renee Lee Snapp. Kay is survived by her children, David Snapp and wife Evelyn of Altoona, IA, Jerry Snapp of North Aurora, IL, Jeanne Kitzmann and husband Larry of Ann Arbor, MI and Mona Snapp of Nebraska; sister-in-law Margaret Coons of Chariton, IA; six grandchildren; three step grandchildren; five great grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Memorials suggested to Botna Valley Genealogical Society or Carson Fire Department. Burial in the Carson Cemetery.
