Laura Mae Reimer

Laura Mae Reimer, one of three children of William Ryan England and Edith Lucile (DeVoss) England, was born December 15, 1943 in Red Oak, Iowa. She grew up in the towns of Elliott and Griswold, Iowa and graduated from the Griswold High School in 1961. Following high school, she worked at the Montgomery County Bank in Red Oak. On May 22, 1966, Laura Mae and Robert Bernal Reimer of Hancock, Iowa were united in marriage. They made their home in Red Oak and later moved to a farm near Hancock. Laura Mae worked in Oakland, Iowa at the Citizens State Bank and later at the Oakland Savings Bank. The couple moved to Oakland and Laura Mae worked at the Oakland Lumber and Redi-Mix Company. When the lumber yard closed, Laura Mae worked for Dr. B.J. England in Griswold. Laura Mae later began working in the laundry department at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home and then at Ruehle's Day Care in Oakland. Laura Mae was baptized and became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa on June 1, 2002. Laura Mae was a great story teller and loved to laugh. es. Laura Mae enjoyed camping and loved attending the school activities of her nieces and nephews. She was a friend to many, and attended birthday parties, anniversaries, and funerals throughout the Midwest. In 2008, Laura Mae and Robert moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa to be near their doctors. Laura Mae survived seven years with cancer and 50 years with diabetes. She lost her battle to a heart condition on July 16, 2009, at the University Medical Center in Omaha, NE. She had attained the age of 65 years, 7 months, and 1 day. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Ellis McCunn; and nephew, Patrick McCunn. Laura Mae is survived by her husband of 43 years, Robert Reimer of Council Bluffs; brother, Dr. B.J. England of Griswold; sister, Mary Lou McCunn of Red Oak; brother-in-law, Larry Reimer and wife Mary of Atlantic, IA; nieces and nephews; and many friends.
