Betty Jean (Mrs. John W.) Hall

Betty Jean Hall, one of three daughters of Carrie Belle (Kingery) and Vern Eugene Hayes, was born on December 24, 1927, near Watson, Missouri. She attended schools in the Hamburg, Iowa area and in Hastings, Iowa. As Betty was growing up, her cousin, Bob Houchins, gave her the nickname "little dough masher". Betty and John Wallace "Bones" Hall were married on July 20, 1962 in Malvern, Iowa. They made their home in Hasting and Betty enjoyed being a homemaker and mother. She worked for several years as a nurse's aide at the Nishna Care Center in Malvern. Betty and John were members of the Hastings United Methodist Church. In 1996, they moved to Henderson, Iowa where they became members of the Henderson United Methodist Church. Betty's favorite flowers were pansies and she enjoyed crocheting, reading, camping, and playing Wii bowling. She loved spending time with John and her family. Betty especially enjoyed displaying photos of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Due to Betty's declining health, she and John moved to the Tabor Manor in Tabor, Iowa, in March of 2009. at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She had attained the age of 82 years, 2 months, and 22 days. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Vern and Carrie Hayes; stepfather Carl L. Hayes; daughter Sandra Jean Jones; son Edward Anson Cunningham; great grandson Hudson Pearson; great niece Chantel Goines; sisters, Lovina Hall and husband Gilbert Sr., and Virginia Parsons and husband Ted; sister-in-law Rose Logan-Jacobe and husbands, Clyde Logan and Jack Jacobe; brothers-in-law, Chester Hall and Joseph Hall; and half brother-in-law George Watson. Betty is survived by her husband John of Henderson; daughter Sheryl Kay Pittman and husband Elzie of Glenwood, IA; son John Wallace Hall, Jr., of Omaha, NE; son-in-law Ricky Jones of Highlandville, MO; sister-in-law Betty G. Hall of Council Bluffs; ten grandchildren: eleven great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. Memorials are suggested to the Hastings United Methodist Church. Private interment in the Hastings Cemetery.
