Kenneth Dean Scott, the youngest of four children of Emma Mae (Edie) and Alfred Milton Scott, was born on September 8, 1924 in Nodaway, Iowa. He grew up on the Scott family farm southeast of Hastings, Iowa, attended North Grove country school and graduated from Hastings High School in 1942. Kenneth worked the family farm and various farms in the Hastings and East Liberty areas. In 1953, he began work for the Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America located northwest of Emerson, Iowa. In 1986, Kenneth retired from Natural Gas Pipeline Co. after 33 years. He also retired from farming the Scott family farm and from real estate work after 23 years. Kenneth and Iva Jewell Jackson first met at the Empress Theater in Malvern, Iowa and went on their first date, attending the Henderson Rodeo. Ken and Iva were married on August 3, 1945 at the Malvern United Methodist Church. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Roger Laverne and Sharlene Kay. The family moved to live in Malvern in 1954. r many years. Kenneth was an avid golfer, an ardent supporter of the Fairview Country Club Golf Course in Malvern, and a member of the "near deads" golf group. He and Iva enjoyed many years of traveling throughout the states and camping with family and friends. Kenneth had a quick wit, a great sense of humor, and loved to tell stories. He shared his love of the Malvern community, along with golf tidbits and humorous advice in a newspaper column in the Malvern Leader, entitled "The Goofer". Above all, Kenneth especially loved being with his family and grandchildren. Due to declining health, Kenneth and Iva moved to Risen Son Christian Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa in May 2011. Kenneth passed away on January 16, 2012 at Risen Son, at the age of 87 years, 4 months, and 8 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Carl Scott and wife Ruth; and sisters, Thelma Hatfield and husband Art, and Irene Parker and husband Joseph. Kenneth is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Iva Jewell Scott of Malvern; son Roger Scott and wife Iris of Urbandale, IA; daughter Sharlene Grindle and husband Rod of Hastings; grandchildren, Shane Scott and wife Tricia and their son Bo Dean of Adel, IA, Cory Scott of Omaha, NE, Stacey Tams and husband Ben and their son Jace, of Omaha, Keri Thomsen and husband Travis and their children, Colton, Carson, and Mia of Oakland, NE, and Lane Grindle and wife Ali and their daughters, Josie and Payton of Lincoln, NE; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends. Memorials suggested to Malvern United Methodist Church or Fairview Country Club Golf Course.
