Margaret Hanlin

Margaret Roseann Dixon Hanlin, 92, of Keokuk, died at 12:15 AM, Saturday, March 24, 2012, at River Hills Village in Keokuk. Margaret was born May 25, 1919, in Hannibal, Missouri, the daughter of Benjamin and Florence Yahn Dixon. She married Chester Hanlin on September 2, 1938 in Macon, Missouri. He preceded her in death on May 2, 1980. Margaret graduated from high school in Hannibal, Missouri. For twenty-five months during World War II, she worked as a civil servant for the US Navy at Pearl Harbor. She was employed by the Keokuk Community School District as a library clerk for twenty-two years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and in past years had been a member of Chapter U of P.E.O. and Questers. Margaret is survived by two sons, Gary Hanlin and his wife Barbara of Woodstock, Illinois and Mark Hanlin and wife Denise of Westfield, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Jared Hanlin (Julie) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Matthew Hanlin of North Liberty, Iowa, Scott Hanlin (Jessica) of Boulder, Colorado, John Hanlin (Jessica) of Woodstock, Illinois, Sarah Sarbaugh (Brett) of Woodstock, Aaron Hanlin (Sara) of Indianapolis, Indiana and Kate Schwartz (Andy) ...[more]

Indianapolis; two great grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Janet Hanlin of Des Moines. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death a son Roger Hanlin on December 17, 2000, and three brothers and a sister. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 917 Blondeau Street in Keokuk with Pastor John Raab officiating. Burial will follow in Keokuk National Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 27, 2012, from 10:00 until 11:00 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
