Mildred "Millie" Knoll

Mildred Irene (Wolter) Knoll was born to William and Frieda Wolter on December 30, 1924. She was baptized in January of 1925 and later confirmed at Germantown Lutheran Church in Germantown Township. She attended country school district #72 until the 9th grade, graduating in June of 1943 from Jeffers Public School. As a sophomore in high school, Millie had the honor of being crowned Miss Jeffers in 1941. After graduating she worked for Halstenrad Grocery as a clerk. On February 27, 1943 Millie was united in marriage to Marty Knoll at Germantown Lutheran Church. She continued to work for Halstenrad Grocery until 1946 when she started working at the Jeffers City Meat Market. Throughout the years, Millie worked as a waitress at Metas Café in Jeffers, and in the kitchen at Jeffers Public School. She was a bailiff at the Cottonwood County Courthouse in Windom for 23 years. Millie was a member of the Rachel Circle and Ladies Aid at Trinity Lutheran church being a past treasurer and secretary. She enjoyed square dancing, traveling, Sunday dinners with the girls' at the Shady Inn, but her passion was playing cards, especially bridge and "500." As a devoted and loving wife...[more]

mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was always willing to help out whenever she could. On Sunday, July 15th, Mildred became suddenly ill and was taken to the Windom Area Hospital in Windom where she passed away on Wednesday morning, July 18, 2012, at the age of 87 years. Millie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marty, (in 1997), her sister Violet and an infant granddaughter. Mildred is survived by her three children, Ronald and Pam Knoll of Rochester; Betty and Richard Torkelson of Windom; Terry Knoll of Virginia Beach, VA; five grandchildren, Stephanie Knoll (Lavar Hicks), Michael (Paula) Knoll, Rebecca Torkelson, Andrew Torkelson and Nikki Knoll; six great- grandchildren, Maria, Berto, Evan, Elliot, Maven and Devry; two step-granddaughters, Cassie and Anissia Bryant; three sisters, Joyce Jacobson of Pipestone; Jane McWilliams of Hopkins; and Billie Jean (Ron) Potter of New Hope; and a very special friend, Merle Hamilton of Tracy.
