James Junior McCormick, the youngest of 17 children of James and Nora (Edelman) McCormick, was born May 12, 1926 at home near Oakley. He attended country schools and graduated from Chariton High School in 1945. After graduation he enlisted in the Army serving in the Military Police. Jim married Barbara Rawlins on February 17, 1951. Jim and Barbara made their home north of Chariton and were blessed with six children: Marridee, Janet, Blake, Ken, Karl, and Jamie. Jim was a hard worker and enjoyed farming his entire life. He could fix, build, and do anything that needed to be done. Jim also did a lot of mechanic work, building, tiling, custom farming, and other things that neighbors needed done. and boating. He loved children, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jim had a special talent for teaching children how to tie their shoes in just a few minutes and to water ski on the first try. Jim passed away July 26, 2012 at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia. He was preceded in death by 11 siblings. Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara; children: Dr. Marridee (Mike) Randall of Albia, Janet (Tom) Janeck of Erie, PA, Blake McCormick of Chariton, Ken (Kellie) McCormick of Chariton, Karl McCormick of Chariton, and Jamie (Jackie) McCormick of Knoxville; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. Also surviving are siblings: Leola Mikesell of Oakley, Elzora Towne of Milo, Eulala Holmquist of Newton, Kenneth McCormick of Norwood, and Lois Akins of Knoxville.
