Helen S. Burroughs

Helen S. Burroughs, 82, of Burlington died at 6:20 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2012, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born September 11, 1929 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Oscar and Anna Scheihing Heckenberg. On October 16, 1948 she married John T. "Jack" Burroughs in Burlington. Helen worked as the secretary of her church and later at Allgood Animal Clinic for 22 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ and Kings Daughters. She was very active in her church and enjoyed family, flowers and crafting. She especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, John "Jack" Burroughs, one daughter, Tara (Dennis) Frey of Burlington; one son, Thomas (Fran) Burroughs of Burlington; four grandchildren, Chase (Sommer) Burroughs, Justin (Annie) Frey, Kelli Burroughs and Amber Almendinger; six great grandchildren, Caleb Hunter, Riley Almendinger, Jacey Almendinger, Jack Burroughs, Haley Frey and Brynley Frey and several nieces and nephews. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 3rd, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. The funeral service for Helen will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 4th, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ. The Rev. Dean Moberg will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. A memorial has been established for St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
