Linda Joel-Estevez of Cooper City, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday September 13, 2012, after a short, hard fought battle against cancer, with her loving husband, Gustavo Estevez, and her pride and joy, son, Matthew Estevez, by her side.
Linda was born on October 31, 1944, in Bryan, Texas, to Nathaniel and Elizabeth Joel. She grew up in Long Island, New York and South Miami, Florida.
Linda graduated from the University of Florida, School of Nursing, and received her Master's Degree in Maternal and Child Sciences, from New York Medical College. She later received a Master's in Nurse-Midwifery. She was a staff nurse-midwife in the first hospital based midwifery service in the United States, at Community Hospital in Springfield, Ohio.
Linda was an advocate for women's health, passionate for her work, and she deeply cared for each of her patients.
Linda loved to travel, and did so worldwide. It was during a trip to Scandinavia, in the 1980's, that she met her future husband in Oslo, Norway.
Linda is survived by her husband Gustavo Estevez, her son Matthew Estevez, as well as her extended family and long time dear friends.
