Betty G. Fitzgerald

Mrs. Betty G. Fitzgerald, 71 of Glen Elder, Kansas, died Friday, October 5, 2012 at Park Place , Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Mrs. Fitzgerald was born July 22, 1941 in Oberland, Kansas, the daughter of James A. and Garrah Bainter Gaumer. In 1962, she married Carl Lewis Fitzgerald. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2012. She was a graduate of Kansas Wesleyan University in Jennings, Kansas. She completed her master's degree in teaching at Kansas State University. She also attended American University in Washington, D.C. for one year on an academic scholarship. She was a member of the Glen Elder Friends Church, the Beloit Archeology Society, the Waconda Heritage Village, and proud supporter on the Beloit Community Concert. Mrs. Fitzgerald worked as a social worker at The Beloit Youth Center before completing her teaching degree and began teaching at the same institution. She later taught at the Tipton, Kansas High School, where she taught Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Spanish. She was an avid supporter of Tipton athletics and arts programs. , who were her pride and joy. Mrs. Fitzgerald and her husband attended their grandson's activities as often as their busy schedules allowed. The summer months when the grandsons visited Glen Elder were their most cherished moments. She enjoyed biking, showing her beloved horse at local shows, working in her rose garden, working amongst the trees, and mostly teaching. She is survived by her two children, Carl Lewis Fitzgerald, II (Stephanie) on Manistee, Michigan, and Jeannette (Kelly) Kadel of New London, Iowa; six grandsons, Brandon, Conor, and Joshua Fitzgerald of Manistee, and Jake, Tristan, and Jarod Kadel of New London; two brothers, Dale (Karen) Gaumer of Indiana, and Jimmy Gaumer of Kansas; one sister, Mary Arnold of Colorado; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. There will be no services or visitation. Private family inurnment will be held in Kansas at a later date. A memorial has been established in the name of Carl and Betty Fitzgerald with the Beloit Community Concert. Memorials should be sent to The Beloit Community Concert, c/o D.
