Ellen Joyce Riddle

Ellen Joyce Riddle, one of three children of Minnie Bell (McDonald) and Leslie James Russell, was born on October 16, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois. She grew up in Chicago where she graduated from high school. Ellen work for 25 years in the office at the manufacturing plant, Unilever, the maker of Pepsodent toothpaste. She retired in 1982. Ellen and Joseph Smith Riddle were married on October 17, 1970 in Chicago. In 1995, the couple moved to live in Carson, Iowa when Joe was relocated to work at Union Pacific in Omaha, Nebraska. Ellen was a member of the Carson United Methodist Church, where she held various positions in the church, Harmony Council Shrine, White Shrine of Jerusalem, both the Harmony and Amber Star Chapters of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of the 20th Century Federated Women's Club, and served as president in the American Legion Auxiliary of Carson Legion Post 556. Ellen enjoyed baking, crocheting, and playing the piano and organ. While in Chicago, she sang with the Musichorale. Ellen loved to play bridge and spending time with Joe and their friends. 2 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, at the age of 73 years and 2 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Herbert Russell; and infant twin sister Emma Russell. Ellen is survived by her loving husband Joe Riddle of Carson; father-in-law Jack Riddle; brother-in-law Ed Riddle; and uncle Max Smith, all of Chicago; aunts, Betty Meeker of Largo, FL, Nellie Woodard of Hoopeston, IL, and Elsie Allen of Linden, IN; nieces, Sherry Russell, husband Jun Li and their family of Silver Spring, MD, and Sheila Russell and James Frame and their family of Haverhill, MA; nephew Scott Russell of Chicago; several great nieces and nephews; and many friends.
