Mary Jane Thilges was born November 16, 1944, in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ann (Sibenaller) Taphorn. She grew up in the Carroll area where she attended school and in 1962, graduated from Carroll Kuemper High School. After her schooling she moved to Algona and began working at Snap-on Tools, which would be a job she would hold for 47 years. On November 27, 1971, Mary Jane was united in marriage to Marvin Thilges at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. After their marriage they lived near Algona where she continued to work at Snap-on Tools and also helped at home on the farm. Mary Jane enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren, as well as, working and being on the farm, cooking, baking and sewing. She was an active member of St. Cecelia Parish, a faithful member in the adoration chapel and always helped in the kitchen at the Rochleau Center during fair week. Mary Jane died Monday, October 22, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. She was 67. Also surviving are siblings, Doris King of Algona; Wayne Taphorn of Algona; Judy and Al Davis of Johnston; Steve and Barb Taphorn of Algona; special aunts, Agnes Goetzinger, Phyllis Sibenaller and Carrie Sibenaller both of Carroll and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ann Taphorn and brother-in-law, John King.
