Sandra LaRue (Eckhardt) Palmer, 75, of Hampton, died, Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012,at The Rehabilitation Center of Hampton after a brave 36 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Sandy was born May 8, 1937 in Sheffield to Carl and Hazel (Titus) Eckhardt. She graduated from Sheffield High School in 1955. After graduating from Hamilton Business School in Mason City she worked for Hewitt Wholesale and Prudential Insurance. She later worked as a secretary for Farmers' Hybrid Company, which later became Monsanto. In 1959 she married Roger Palmer of Hampton. To this marriage, a son, Patrick was born. Sandy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1976; however, Sandy always said that even though she had MS, the MS didn't have her. She lived every day of her life to the fullest. Sandy enjoyed the family cats that she and Pat had over the years. She also loved baking and sharing what she baked; she was especially known for her lemon pies and brownies. She was an active member of the Hampton Senior Center of which was a board member for several years and called BINGO there twice a week. Sandy was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church. his wife Becky of Hampton; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles and Marvin Eckhardt; a nephew Mark Eckhardt and a great nephew Adam Bartelt. In lieu of flowers, Sandy requested that memorials be directed to the Hampton Senior Center. The Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home of Hampton is in charge of the arrangements. Inurnment will take place at the Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield, Iowa.
