Lois LaVonne Elkins, 80, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Thursday morning, October 25, 2012, at the Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa, Iowa. A private family celebration of Lois' life will be held from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. There is no public visitation. Burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa. A longtime Maquoketa resident, she was born on the family farm in rural Zwingle to Clayton F. Clark and Evelyn Marie (Peoples) Clark. She met the love of her life, Howard Elkins, in high school and they were married 58 years until his death in 2009. Together they raised five children: Evelyn (Dave) Miller of San Jose, California; Tom (LuAnn) Elkins, Nancy (Al) Muhlhausen, James (Jolene) Elkins, and John Elkins (Joey Kuhlman-Reid), all of Maquoketa. In addition to her children, she is survived by her sisters LaVonne (Stuart) Morehead, Darlene (Harold) Butz, and Betty (Tom) Streets, Carolyn Clark (Neil) Morehead, and her brothers Larry "Butch" (Carol) Clark and Roger (Christine) Clark, and a sister-in-law, Joan (Don "Bud") Miller of Maquoketa, IA. sen; Ryan, Whitney, Jamie, Keil, and Jenna Elkins; Reece Elkins, Samantha and Madison Reid; and Brian and Matt Schepers. She was great-grandmother of six. After high school, she was a secretary at Clinton Engines for several years. For the remainder of her life, she was a full-time homemaker and partner in Howard's TV business, rental properties and political career as councilman and mayor. She loved kids (especially her grandchildren), animals and travelling all over the U.S. and Canada. She was a prolific gardener and canner. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother Robert Clark, and a sister Ruth Siegel.
