Robert O. Gunderson

Robert O. Gunderson, 76, of Fort Dodge, died Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Robert Olin Gunderson, the son of Ole and Emily (Miller) Gunderson, was born September 17, 1936 in Yankton, South Dakota. Robert graduated from Yankton High School in 1954 and then received his degree from The University of South Dakota at Vermillion in 1958. Robert served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1958 to 1960. Following his discharge he taught school and was a basketball coach at Ponca, Nebraska schools. He received his Masters Degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1964 . In 1966 he moved to Fort Dodge to begin teaching at Iowa Central Community College. On June 9, 1968, Robert was united in marriage to Judith Henriksen in Britt, Iowa. Robert taught many business classes at Iowa Central, where he was employed for 35 years. Robert was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church where he served as a head usher. He enjoyed walking his dog Louie, reading, traveling and photography during his lifetime. Robert treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. es Moines; Erik Gunderson, Fort Dodge; his daughter-in-law Robyn Gunderson, Lewisville, Texas; three grandchildren, Laura, Allyson and Jude; and his sister Jean Ackerman, Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his wife Judy, his son Rob and his parents. The service honoring Robert's life will be 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 10 at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Matthew Martens officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by V.F.W. Post No. 1856. The visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.
