Lee Oliver Manning

Lee Oliver Manning, 87, of Burlington died at 1:15 a.m. Sunday, November 11, 2012, at Great River Medical Center-Klein Center. Born August 31, 1925 in Queen City, Missouri, he was the son of Jesse Francis and Nettie Gladys Gardner Manning. He married Virginia Lucille Lasley on October 8, 1944 in Newton, Iowa. He was a graduate of Lancaster Missouri High School. Lee worked as a production worker for General Electric, retiring in 1989. He worked part-time at Hy-Vee for the last twelve years. Lee had a love for square dancing, which he and his wife did for over fifty years. He was past president of the Iowa State Square and Round Dance Federation. Lee also enjoyed gardening. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Virginia Lucille; four children, Richard E. (Janet) Manning of Ocoee, Florida, Susan (David) Swanson of Crystal River, Florida, Cathy L. Moser and Tom (Ella) Manning, both of Burlington; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one half brother. s from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service for Lee will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 15th at Norman Funeral Home, 402 W. Washington St., Lancaster, Missouri. Pastors Dean Benton, of Burlington, and Sonny Smyser of Lancaster will officiate. Family will receive friends from Noon until time of services. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Glenwood, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Great River Hospice House.
