James E. Carlson, 101, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Tompkins Memorial Health Center. The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with burial following at North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11a.m. prior to the service at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Jim was born on March 4, 1911, in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1930, during the depression years. His first job was with Horn Folding Partition Company, as their draftsman. Jobs were scarce and he was a straight A student in his drafting class at school and he felt this helped to secure his job. His last job was with the Fort Dodge Community School District as the caretaker of Dodger Stadium. He worked there for 30 years, retiring in 1973. James is survived by his nieces and nephews Sharon (Dan) Block, Judy Patterson, Kent (Rita) Carlson, Leslye (Jack) Yates and Jerilyn Carlson; his extended family Bob (Milli) and Tim Waterhouse and several great-nieces and nephews.
