Leonard Wisneski

Leonard Wisneski, 90, of Ashwaubenon, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a short illness on Tuesday, January 15, 2013. Leonard was born Jan. 30, 1922 in Rosholt, WI to the late Joseph and Mary Wisneski. "Lenny" lived a full life. Due to a family tragedy, he spent much of his childhood raised at St. Joseph Orphanage in Green Bay. After proudly serving our country in the US Army during World War II he returned home and married Adeline Rosik on May 29, 1948. They were looking forward to their 65th wedding anniversary this spring. Lenny worked at Alwin Manufacturing for nearly 40 years until his retirement in 1984. He was an active member at Nativity Parish where he enjoyed his service as a Eucharistic Minister and Minister of Hospitality. He was a longtime member and one of the original founders of the Ashwaubenon VFW and also belonged to the local Moose Lodge. Lenny had many interests in his life. Whether he was with his wife, one of his six children, 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren or a complete stranger, he loved being with people. pent countless hours at the card table, never turning down a chance to play Schafskopf (Sheepshead) and playing Jarts with family and friends. Throughout his marriage he enjoyed dancing with his beloved wife - where they earned top recognition for their Jitterbug. He was a lifetime Green Bay Packer fan and season ticket holder since the days of City Stadium. Our annual family Booyah Party was something he enjoyed immensely. He would make 2-3 huge pots of Booyah. We all remember him in his American flag apron, serving with a big smile on his face and the words, "Enjoy my ' deeeelicious, deeeelicious' Booyah!" Lenny treasured their yearly trips to Las Vegas with Adeline, his brother Jackie and sister-in-law Alrita. Lenny being the "people person" he was could not stay home in retirement. He worked several part-time jobs over the years as a house painter, dealing blackjack and working as the door greeter at Red Lobster where you could also hear him singing Happy Birthday to the guests. Just two weeks ago he worked his final shift as a volunteer at Paul's Pantry. One of Lenny's most proud and recent memories was being able to go to Washington DC on an Honor Flight for WWII veterans with his brother, Jackie. He was able to visit the Grave of the Unknown Soldier, Arlington Cemetery, and WWII Memorial and witness the changing of the guard. What made this trip even more special to Lenny was that his oldest grandchild, Shelly, sponsored him and accompanied him. With his constantly positive outlook on life, great sense of humor and true love for all people he made a difference in many people lives. So truly, Leonard lived a full life. Leonard is survived by his wife of 64 years, Adeline. Six children: Gloria (Ted) Belanger, AZ; Nancie Kurilla, Green Bay; Bill (Carrie), Green Bay; Diane (Al) Van Lanen, Florence; Roger (Jane), Green Bay and Jeff (Leesah), De Pere. 19 Grandchildren: Shelly, Brian, Jay, Lisa, Chad, Brandt, Adam, Jenny, David, Darek, Kristy, Rhianon, Tammy, Emily, Nick, Kari, Scott, Alex and Sam and 22 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his brothers John of Freedom and Joseph of CO; sister Edna of Stevens Point; brother-in-law Burke Wolfe, numerous nieces and nephews. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ervin (Eva); Walter (Ann); Edward (Tootie); Clarence (Anita) and Donnie; sisters Lucile (Harry) Dunn; Emily (Jack)Konopecki and Helen Wolfe. Sisters-in-Law, Alrita and Carol. Visitation will take place on Friday, January 18, 2013 from 4 pm to 7 pm at Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Avenue. A Parish Wake service will take place at 6:30 pm with VFW service to follow. Visitation will continue Saturday, January 19, 2013 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 2270 S. Oneida Street. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 am with Rev. John H. Harper officiating. Full military honors will follow. Burial will take place at Fort Howard Memorial Park. A memorial fund has been established in Leonard's name. The Family would like to thank Unity Hospice for all of their care and concern given to Leonard.
