Patriot Medallion of Honor and Remembrance which bestows the respect and the honor of the Noncommissioned Officers Association for Service in WWII; a Certificate of Recognition from Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defense, for Service during the Cold War; National Roll of Honor at the Washington, D.C. National Cathedral Memorial Chapel and was personally presented a Medallion for Participation in the Liberation of the Islands from Japanese occupation by the Lt. Governor of the Northern Mariana Islands. In addition, he received the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic Medal with three Battle Stars, American Campaign Medal, a Meritorious Service Medal, and a Unit Citation with Oak Leaf Cluster. He had life membership in Moline VFW Post 2153 and Moline American Legion Post #246, was a 50-year member of Moline Lodge #1014, AF & AM, and was presented a charter membership in the Society of King Solomon having given noteworthy financial support to the Illinois Masonic Charities Fund and the advancement of the charities it serves. He is survived by his very special friend and caregiver, Eulalia Garrett of New Windsor, Ill.; sons, Thomas Sharar of Wapello, Donald Sharar of Blue Grass; a daughter, Kristine Gerischer of Cambridge, Md.; and grandchildren; a stepson and his wife John and Mary Carol Williams of Andalusia, Ill., and their daughters, Laura Davis, Kathryn Stahr and Renee Williams and five step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wives; a son, Roy B. Sharar II and his only brother, Virgil Sharar.
