Velma Frances Johnson

Mrs. Velma Johnson, 86, of Danville died Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Danville Care Center. Velma Frances Johnson was born at home in rural Des Moines County, near Prairie Grove on May 5, 1926 the daughter of Victor F. and Mathilda (Anderson) Nelson. She graduated from Prairie Grove School. She married Lester Johnson on September 22, 1946. He preceded her in death on died April 28, 2005. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, the Afternoon Circle, the Church Quilters and the "Over the Hill" gang. She was a homemaker, she spent time working on the farm and had a garden she enjoyed working in to can and freeze. She previously had worked at F. W. Means Co., Sylvania and General Electric. She loved to cook and bake and share her creations with family and friends. She enjoyed sending cards to friends and shut-ins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester; granddaughter, Jill McClurg, one sister, three brothers, and a step great-grandchild. Friends may call from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, February 1st, at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. The funeral service for Mrs. Johnson will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 2nd, at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Cindy Johnson will officiate. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Peace Lutheran Church, Capital Improvement Fund.
