Opal Waneta Blackman

Opal Waneta Blackman, one of five children of Ina Elnora (Grammar) and Lane Fredrick Mores, was born on January 23, 1927 in Hastings, Iowa. She spent her childhood around the Hastings and Malvern, Iowa areas. Waneta and Elmer Willard Haney, son of Mary (Stockstell) and George Haney, were married on July 14, 1945. Their marriage was blessed with a daughter Linda Lou. Waneta and Elmer were married 24 years when Elmer passed away on January 29, 1970 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Waneta and Harold Leroy "Blackie" Blackman were married on May 13, 1972. Blackie passed away on November 1, 1974. Waneta was a resident of the Ava, Missouri community for 37 years and a member of the Happy Home Church. She worked as a cook for the Plainview School for many years. She also cooked and cared for the elderly in the Ava area. Among her enjoyments were cooking and spending time with her family and friends. Waneta passed away on February 03, 2013 at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 86 years and 10 days. Waneta is survived by her daughter Linda Myers and fiancé Jerry Hall; granddaughters, Christina McSwain and husband Bill, and Amanda Lumley and husband Mike; two great grandchildren, Brittney and Kelsey Lumley; step daughters, Grace Blackman and Beverly Hall; four step grandchildren; 14 step great grandchildren; sister Ina Winters; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Memorials are directed to the family. Cremation will take place. Loess Hills Funeral Home of Malvern in charge of Iowa arrangements.
