Dorothy Jean Cooper was born November 9, 1928, in Calumet, Iowa, the daughter of T.T. and Francis (Lorenzen) Manley. She grew up on a farm south of Primghar, and she was a graduate of Gaza High School and the Iowa State Teacher's College. She taught school for two years. She was united in marriage to Lee Cooper on June 5, 1949 in Primghar.
In 1955, the couple moved to Emmetsburg. They farmed four miles west of Emmetsburg raising grain, chickens and hogs. In 1984, the couple retired and moved to Primghar. The last two years, the couple lived in Emmetsburg and wintered in Texas. Dorothy enjoyed flower gardening and traveling to all the grandchildren's activities from state to state. Her favorite pasttime was spending time with her family.
On July 23, 2007, Dorthy Cooper passed away at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. She was 78.
