Paul Spies Frick was born May 21, 1929 in Estherville, Iowa, the son of George and Hertha (Spies) Frick. He attended school in Graettinger, graduating in 1947. Following his education, Paul enlisted in the United States Army where he served in Tokyo, Japan. Paul was united in marriage to Marilyn Ditsworth on July 31, 1959 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fairmont, MN. Paul farmed, raised holstein show cattle and managed the Lost Island (Ruthven) and Hillcrest (Graettinger) Golf Courses. Paul's passion was golf. He was always there to give golf lessons to anyone that wanted them. He loved to help people perfect the game he loved so much. He had the first recorded hole-in-one at the Hillcrest. In younger years, he coached several successful little league baseball teams. He owned a baseball camp in Bemidgi, MN. He was a true Yankee fan and loved to spend time with his family. Paul was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post 162 in Graettinger and the V.F.W. Post 3388 in Estherville. He was past-president of the Graettinger School Board. Left to cherish his memory are three daughters: Stephanie Block and Douglas of Gothenburg, NE, Suzanne Williamson and Clyde of Fountain Hills, AZ and Paulette Webb and Michael of Manly, IA; son, Jon Hanson of Conroe, TX; sister, Ruth Weiershaeuser of Heidelberg, Germany; seven grandchildren; and a special friend, Juanita Helmke of Emmetsburg.
