Leslie G. Baxter

Leslie George Baxter was born September 23, 1908 on a farm near Ayrshire, IA the son of Robert and Edna (Rouse) Baxter. He attended school in Ayrshire where he also drove the school bus. On December 30, 1930, Leslie was united in marriage to Gladys Walker in Algona, Iowa. They farmed near Ayrshire, West Bend, Ruthven, Graettinger and Lone Rock. Gladys passed away in February of 1973, and in November, Leslie retired to Emmetsburg. On April 27, 1974, he married Mamie Long in Emmetsburg, Iowa. They lived in Emmetsburg before moving to Ruthven Assisted Living in August 2002. Leslie enjoyed farming, helping others, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. On Monday, October 20, 2008, Leslie Baxter passed away at the Ruthven Care Center. He was 100 years old.
