Michael Phillips Hollingsworth was born January 16, 1941, during an ice storm, the son of Jack Ecton and Mary (Phillips) Hollingsworth. On January 27, Mike passed away at the Palo Alto County Hospital, during an ice storm. Mike was adopted by Chet Hollingsworth as a child. Mike was a graduate of Walsh High School in Ottumwa, and he joined the United States Air Force in 1959 serving until 1964. Following his service, Mike lived in California where he attended Sacramento State University, and in 1971 he returned to Ottumwa, IA. He began working for Target where he met his wife to be, Sharon. On October 6, 1973, Mike was united in marriage to Sharon Gabel in Ottumwa, IA. The couple moved to Emmetsburg, IA in 1983 where they owned and operated Ben Franklin. During retirement, Mike worked for Iowa Lakes Community College in the maintenance and intercampus courier departments. Mike enjoyed fly-fishing, golf and the outdoors. He loved his family, and treasured every minute he spent with them. Mike was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, and he was the past-Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus. Mike was preceded in death by his parents.
