Allen R. Hoerschelman, 74, of Andrew, Iowa, died on Saturday evening, February 16, 2013, at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque, Iowa. A celebration of Allen's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, February 20, 2013, from the Salem Lutheran Church in Andrew, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Burial will be at the Andrew, Iowa Cemetery. Allen Ross Hoerschelman was born on March 15, 1938 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Harry Gottlieb and Bertha (Fuller) Hoerschelman. He grew up in Andrew and was a 1956 graduate of Andrew High School. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years and married Marianne Fuglsang on October 9, 1960 in Andrew, Iowa. Allen farmed the century family farm in Andrew area for many years, retiring in 2006. He also worked as a school bus driver for the Andrew Schools during the 1960's. Allen was a member of the Andrew AMVETS, Salem Lutheran Church in Andrew and had served on the church council. and had been president of the Andrew Coop. Allen liked to travel, listen to country music, go horseback riding, and play cards, particularly euchre and bridge. He loved spending time with this family especially around a bonfire, and was known as a very mechanical man who could fix anything. Those left to honor Allen's memory include his wife, Marianne Hoerschelman of Maquoketa, IA; children, Gary (Darlene) Hoerschelman of Andrew, IA, Lori (Brad) Edaburn of Marion, IA, Lisa Dursky of Andrew, IA, and Jan (Adam) Pyatt of Mount Vernon, IA; 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; a brother, Eldon (Elaine) Hoerschelman of Bellevue, IA; and a sister, Gloria (Terry) Petesch of Bellevue, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother Charles. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, an Allen R. Hoerschelman memorial fund has been established.
