Harry L. Backer, 55, of Brandon, IA died Monday, July 17, 2017 at the Convenient Care Clinic in Garden City, KS.
Harry was born on August 21, 1961 in Waterloo, Iowa the son of Donald L. and Bessie E. "Evelyn" (Knapp) Backer. He was a 1979 graduate of Waterloo West High School. On August 23, 1997 he was married to Lisa Ann Bartels in Cedar Falls, IA. They made their home in Waterloo, IA, until moving to Brandon, IA in 2011. He worked for Bertch Cabinets, and XL Specialized Trailers.
He is survived by his mother Bessie "Evelyn" Backer, Waterloo, IA, his wife of 19 years, Lisa, Brandon, IA, four children; Jennifer Wyatt, Mason City, IA, Donald Backer, Leanne Backer, and Harry Backer Jr., all of Brandon, IA, and two grandchildren. Also surviving are his three sisters Carolyn (Douglas) Mulder, Aplington, IA, Diane (Dennis) Ernster, Brandon, IA, Virgina (Louis) Reiss, Evansdale, IA, and his two brothers, Steven (Lisa) Backer, Holland, IA, and, Scott (Lidia) Backer, Aurora, CO.
He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Backer.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 from 3 to 7 PM at the VFW Hall 128 3rd Ave NE, Independence, IA 50644.
